How Did COVID-19 Impact The US Economy? Tracking Public Opinion

How Did COVID-19 Impact The US Economy?

How did COVID-19 impact the US Economy? The question on everybody’s mind in 2020. Throughout the early days of the pandemic, we tracked public opinion on COVID-19’s impact on the US Economy through research surveys.

THE CHALLENGE

When the COVID-19 pandemic started, there was a lot of uncertainty about how it would impact the US economy, so we surveyed public opinion on the economy as the first wave of the pandemic unfolded.

WHAT WE DID

ROI Rocket funded and executed  several research projects throughout the first four months of the global pandemic – each time testing over 1,000 U.S. residents aged 18 and older with a 95% confidence level and +/- 3.1% margin of error in the most conservative case.

RESULT

In April of 2020, a majority of Americans welcomed a federal stimulus package (56%) but felt increasingly pessimistic about the economy (75%). In May of 2020, a majority of Americans were divided on re-opening the economy across party lines. In July of 2020, a majority of Americans supported re-imposing previously mandated countermeasures (63%), believing that re-opening the economy was happening too fast. These studies helped track public opinion  during a volatile period of time at the beginning of the global pandemic.
